you have zapped your sound device drivers. this should work

If you cannot see the volume icon in the notification area you can reinstall the volume control program. Here’s how:

Or just check your system32 folder for a file named sndvol32.exe. If it’s missing it could be the problem.
re install windows, by the way what are codecs?????
a lot of apps like that make a backup before deleting have you checked?
You don’t need to be downloading codecs, you most likely need to reinstall the audio/sound driver. Drivers are pieces of software that your PC must use to communicate with hardware. Go to your laptop’s manufacturer website and search for your laptop model and check if they have audio drivers for XP.
You can also download a software called Radarsync that will scan your PC and tell you what drivers you need. It’s free.

Then you can either create an account (NOT free) with them to have them automatically download it or you can just go to their website and download it yourself (free and no account neccessary).

Tip: Before you do ANYTHING with the registry, create a restore point and make absolutely sure you know what you are doing. The registry is SO easy to modify, but VERY important to your PC.
You will need to install the right codecs for your sound card, find out the make and google the website for latest downloads, good luck!
check your sound card
and re-install your sound driver
