   If you used a system builder or retail CD to reinstall a machine with a big brand OEM key then MS won’t activate the system over the internet.

   Try the activation phone number. If you explain the situation to them they will often activate in circumstances like this though there is no gaurantee.

   If your installation disk is a valid one, you can call Microsoft and they will give you a new product key. Not sure which version of Windows you have but here’s a link to their support site:

   Call Microsoft that is the best way, they change the key.

   the key is located in the cd case of the cd. its impossible that its invalid. try it again

   Maybe your product key is not an original one.
   How much did you buy it? An original one should be around $99.
   Mine is $105. If yours is less than $30, it looks like yours is not an original one.
