computers will run slow when they are almost full in the hard drive with files and such. Do disk cleanup, registry, defregamentation, and clean out any files, programs, etc. that you dont need anymore
I recommend you download and run CCleaner to clean out the junk first. After that, run the defragmenter.Among the defragmenters I have tried, I have found Diskeeper to be the most efficient. Its also very easy to use as it can be set to defrag automatically in the background, has a nice GUI, defrags under low free space and defrags system files. For Vista, it has a VSS defrag option that prevents unnecessary shadow copy activity.
Try the 30 day trial if you wish

How much RAM does she have and can she add more? She should look up here model here and the site will tell her what RAM she has and how much more she can add (if applicable). If she can, she should.
Here are two sites with excellent free programs. Have her download and run CCLeaner (http://www.ccleaner.com)
and Defraggler (http://www.piriform.com/defraggler)
in that order. That should help her computer run more quickly (not ‘quick’)
Without knowing what she has on her computer and what she is asking it to do, not much more can be suggested.
A disk clean-up, a defragment, some kind of registry clean-up like CC Cleaner and an antivirus check, and it should work smooth..
