I have a new Dell Inspiron 1520 note book PC; It was having problems on start up like heavy monitor flickering after Log On and long time to start. It was giving unexpected shutdowns. The service from Dell and agents was not helpful.
So I re-installed Vista from the CD (that deleted all Dell software). and updated drivers as required. Then all start up problems vanished. But there is one problem now. After most Vista updates, it goes into black screen (repair mode) during the re-start process. What can be done? Can I avoid updating? Will it cause any problems?
After the "repair" (nothing really) and booting, it says the updating was OK and works normally. Pls advise.

Vista is awful but good news you can install xp on the 1520 I just did except for one problem I forgot to disconnect my 500gb external hard drive and totally deleted it,
I would speak to dell about this issue but more importantly I would get rid of Vista

I have had the same problem, mine crashed after the repairs I quit the updates and things work fine…. I am beginning to think the updates cause the damage and in the end vista will have to pay…….to bad we won’t see the money…………..
