Registry Booster is the best registry repair software, it can clean and optimize your system, free it from registry errors and fragmented entries.
There can be two issues:
1. Virus (Use AVG free)
2. Corrupt registry (Use Reginout )
I am sure it will help you.
Only use registry cleaning tools if you understand how they work. Deleting the wrong registrys can cause system and hardware issues. You should try uninstalling your lan drivers and then reinstalling them they could have become corrupted. Just like any software some will work and some won’t. It could be possible that the Software your using cannot locate or match the missing files.
You might need to get hold of an install disk for your operating system (XP/Vista/Win 7), borrow one if possible, and boot with that (any one will do as long as it’s the same version eg:Home/Pro/Basic/Premium etc.).
Start in SAFE* mode and click Start (then Run in XP) and type (in the search bar in Vista/Win 7)
sfc /scannow
(note the space between sfc and /scannow)
(in the search bar in Vista/Win 7)
and press Return/Enter.
If asked to insert the Windows disk, do so.
When the scan finishes, re-start.
*Note: On start up (before Windows loads) keep tapping either F5 or F8 (be aware that some manufacturers use F8 for system recovery!) then use arrow keys to highlight ‘Safe Mode’ and hit Enter/Return, click on a user account, enter the password (if you don’t know it, there probably isn’t one so leave it blank) and hit enter/return.

well if you cant update your xp. then dowload it.
go to the microsoft’s home page and there you can download the updates to any version of xp there.
you can also check what were the updates released by them for your version of xp.
Its my understanding that xp 64bit is very finicky. and only supports a limited hardware list.
And wasn’t supported much to start with and isn’t supported any more.
i checked into this and decided that 7 was the only choice for 64 bit OS
