You can setup a new connection fro Start menu > connect to > show all connections > network tasks menu > create a new connection. Or can create from controll panel > network and internet connections > network connections > ceate a new connection (left side Menu / network tasks menu.) you will be guided by your system, but you must remember your username and password to insert in the wizerd for creating a new connection.
I agree with plugging in an ethernet cable. Wirelessly, the router has no idea who you are. With a hard cable, you HAVE to be the owner.
In a browser, type 192.168.0.1 as a URL address. That should take you to the control panel for the router. If not, then try 192.168.1.1, then 192.168.2.1. There should never be a need to go higher than 2, but someone will prove me wrong! 😉
I had a DSL modem plugged into a Linksys router. The DSL was 192.168.0.1 and I had to make the router 192.168.1.1.
If you remember your password to the control panel, you will be able to redo your security encryption code.
There are probably 2 answers to this.
1. Reset your router as everyone is saying. But, this will probably remove your password and during that time someone could access your internet. It would also delete other information. Like an IP forwarder or a MAC Address if you have Comcast.
2. Plug in an ethernet cable. Then, go to Start -> Run -> Type in "cmd" (No quotes) -> Type in "ipconfig" (No quotes) then look for the one that says "Default Gateway. Next, type in the default gateway in your internet browser. It should require a password. The username and password is usually admin. If not, try this site http://www.routerpasswords.com/ and choose your router. This should lead to your router’s "Homepage". Then go to your security tab and it should show your password.
Also, check to make sure that it is actually your network, and that you have all of the correct drivers.
reset the router and install software again and make sure you set a password using wpa 2.0
hold the reset button on the back of your wireless router for 10 seconds. That completely resets the connection.
You will have to reset the router by holding the button in the back for about 20-30 seconds (depends on router make)
After that you will be able to connect to the router without needing to have to set up a password.
Once you are connected you can go and setup a new wireless password from the routers setup page.
You can easily find instructions for your router on google.
