Get rid of "windows defender" with ParetoLogic’s Anti-Virus PLUS! Don’t delay because this virus can possibly start screwing up your files on your PC. You may have to run this in safe mode.

safe mode – when your computer is starting up press and hold F8 until you get the start up options and choose "safe mode with networking"
if it does not allow you to install any software from the net you may need to download this software from another computer and transfer it by thumb drive.
First, you need to disconnect from the Internet so that you will not get anymore complications. Second, go to another computer and download an an Anti-Virus program there and save it to a zip drive. After that, upload that Anti-Virus program to the infected computer and scan and delete. This should help in removing the virus immediately. The college here recommends either AVG or Avast to fix that up. Or you could upload a program called Mal-ware Bytes (which is what I used on my Home PC…and it rocks). Either way, they are very effective and has helped many students here and my home computer. Third, (and I highly recommend this one) back up any important files that you have saved on the infected computer (after you have found the virus and destroyed it first, of course) into a zip drive. Once that is done, completely wipe your hard-drive and then re-install Windows Vista…just to be better safe than sorry. Is it a tedious process? Hell yes, but it is worth the wait because it is better than having the PC crash on you. I hope this helps you.
I had a similar problem like this before, but with Antivirus_Pro 2010. I was running WinXP Media Center. Antivirus_Pro seemed to make itself look as if it were interacting with Windows Defender, but it actually wasnt. Fortunately for me I was able to spam Ctrl+Alt+Del and shut downt he virus via the Processes tab. After that I found the program, it is either found in Program FIles, or Program Data, Local Settings, WINDOWS or WIN32. It usually runs as a standalone .EXE but also sometimes has a .CONFIG file with it. Unfortunately my desktop is now under siege from yet another virus and this one is terribly persistent. I urge you to get a very strong, commercial legal antivirus program to defend your computer. I’ve used CA in the past but it has failed me for this latest onslaught so I’m not sure you want it.
reinstall vista
Go to safe mode with net working, download this Malwarebytes anti-malware:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/
After install, run an update of it before you do a full scan of your system.Just delete or remove anything being found. If you can’t install it,just change the name of the setup file from mbam-setup.exe to xxx.exe
After finish scanning with anti-malware,do another scanning with your Norton anti-virus.Remember to update first before scanning.
