Just go and run the recovery discs and when it tells you it is going to reformat the drive say okay and off you go..
HEY, BACK UP ALL YOUR PICTURES AND STUFF FIRST TO A CD OR SOMETHING.
Go to Control Panel / Add or Remove programs. Remove what you can first. The rest is done through the disc. I used to use a recovery disc, and it uninstalled and reinstalled as I followed the prompts on the disc. Then wait for other answers on here to see if there is more info that is helpful! I went from Windows 98 to Windows XP last year.
You need to reformat the hard drive. The disks that came with the computer will format the hard drive before installing ME. Have fun, also make sure that there are no scratches on the discs that came with it.
delete the partition. it’ll delete everything and pop in the disk to boot the installation screen.
installing windows xp has no turning back (or so i have heard).. once u install it u cant go back….i dont know as a fact but i have heard about this …. u can still try to do the following:
u can start by deleting the windows sp2 on the add remove files in the control panel
after removing this, u should insert the windows me cd and click on reboot
INSTALLING THE OPERATING SYSTEM
Reinstallation:
Download the latest software versions and drivers for everything installed or running on your computer saving them to a folder on a different drive than your Operating System, or save them do a DVD or CD
If you have only one hard drive in your computer and your pocket can stand it, I recommend that you purchase another hard drive. The smallest will before your Operating System, the other for your DATA.
Disconnect your system from the Internet.
If you have more than one hard drive, pull the power plug on all except the one for the Operating System. That way, if the virus is on the other drives also it cannot recontaminate your system drive as soon as the installation is finish.
Set your BIOUS Boot Order to CD or DVD as the First Boot device and the Hard Drive as the Second Boot Device.
Start the installation of your Operating System, Delete the Partition and create a new one. Format the new partition. DO NOT INSTALL THE INTERNET AT THIS TIME!
After the Operating System installation is complete, install all of your software and drivers too include your latest versions.
BACK UP the whole C drive to DVD or CD NOW!
Make sure that your Antivirus and Firewall is up and rinning before connecting to the internet.
Reconnect any drives that you pulled the power cable from.
Scan all drives with your Antiviruse.
Go to http://www.microsoft.com, auto update, update widows and software files
