Here’s the link to a very good Free anti-virus that’s Vista compatible: http://www.free-av.com/
I had to get Trend Micro Anti-Virus 2007 and then download the updates.I also have vista. There are alot of programs that are incompatible as the vista is ahead of it’s time.I also have webroot spy sweeper. They assure me windows fire wall is good enough. When you download another virus protection make sure to turn off windows defender as it will fight with it.
Your new computer should have a trial antivirus software for three months. Otherwise you can download AVG free antivirus. I don’t like it too much but if you need something free for the time being, then it’s ok. But you can download Trend Micro’s free antivirus for a trial period, then purchase if you like it. I used both Trend Micro and Norton 2007 internet security. I prefer Trend Micro anytime. You really should get a decent antivirus program, not those freebies. Trend Micro’s AV is called PCCillin. Go to their site and download it. It is fully Vista capable, I use it for my Sony Vaio. Also, I use if for my other desktop Pc. I use Norton for my remaining desktop with XP. I used to think Trend Micro was a s**t antivirus but their help desk support is fantastic. They even email you for follow ups in case your problems were not resolved. Ever think any companies do that? Hardly.
I also used Mcafee for many years but I think their products no longer fit my needs and it is only one licence. I have 4 Pcs so I prefer to get TM for the price of one will cover 3 PCs, the same price for one subscription of McAfee. What the?
go to the store and buy oncare or Mcafee. they are the best that i know of i rather have Mcafee if you ask me.
Most of the freeware virus protections are vista compatible, you can visit their respective sites and find it out. Here are links to major freeware providing antivirus companies below

Go to:
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/
You will get a free Virus program.
1. Go to http://www.download.com
2. do a search on antivirus
3. do a filter on only windows vista
4. do you want get a free program if so filter free
5. If you want try it out and buy later if so filter
6. See anything else people want to know about vista.
On your Pc there should be on the start menu a section where it should say the name of some virus protection so yeah.
