I have a problem with "debug assertation" errors coming up and thay are affectng my pc.
So I want to do a repair but i'm not sure whether doing so will clean of all my files and put a fresh copy of xp on my pc or just repair some of the system files leaving my installed software intact.
Help is appreciated.

Repair does just that. It examines and repairs anything that does not belong in Windows.
Everything else is left unchanges.
Repair is cool it will not harm your software.
wdw
you should be ok
NO, the windows repair only checks and repairs the system files within Windows itself.
be sure to pick the repair option not the install option when it boots up.
If you just do an installation repair you should be ok. If you do a clean installation it will format your hard drive first which would lose all of your stuff. Doing the repair installation just reinstalls the operating system files.
