you got alot of processes that are running in your system. hit CTRL ALT ESC and find out what programs are taking the most. look for the one that says your computer name next to it .. not the SYSTEM one. and for the ones you dont need them to run at computer start up. go to start>run>type in msconfig a window will pop up .. go to startup and uncheck the ones you dont need to start up. becareful of what applications you tick off. dont touch the system applications just go after the ones that start up that you really dont need . like yahoo messenger/MSN/ photoeditors/ digital camera programs/ etc. and NO deleting any files on your computer has nothing to do with real time RAM/memory usuage. the memory usuage is your RAM. and 61 / 30 gig left is plenty of room.. so that is not the problem.
also you should clean your registry with ccleaner i USED to use it alot when i ran windows (now im on linux) and it is very safe. yes clean your registries and do it twice or three times untill it tells you there is nothing left.
and try to defragment your harddrive overnight too .. keep it defragmenting and go to bed (it takes a long time) you go to my computer > drive C/D (or whatever drive you wanna defragment > right click > properties> tools > defragment. 🙂
Good luck
how many softwares have you installed in your computer?
Softwares that you installed run many process which use up your system memory
you can either upgrade your RAM
or
1. click on the vista start icon in the botton left corner of your screen.
2. Type MSCONFIG in the search box and then either press enter on your keyboard or double-click on the MSCONFIG program that appears in the search results.
3. To prevent you from accidentally making changes that could destabilize your computer, Vista asks you for permission to continue. You may see a box asking you to key in your computer’s administrator user name and password.
Or, if you’re already logged into Vista as an administrator, you may see a box asking you if you would like to continue.
Either way, follow the on-screen prompts to give Vista permission to continue.
4. Once you have successfully passed through Microsoft’s User Account Control roadblock, Vista will launch Microsoft’s System Configuration Utility. Click on the Startup tab.
5. This takes you to a page with a list of "startup items." Startup items are programs that are automatically loaded every time you turn on your computer. Some startup programs are absolutely necessary, others are simply a waste of RAM.
In Windows Vista, all of Windows’ essential programs are loaded through something called "Windows Services." This means that most of the startup items you see in Vista are completely optional and can be turned off. However, a good rule of thumb is to disable only those programs that you recognize and don’t need to have running all the time. When in doubt, leave it on. Or, better still, check out Paul "PacMan" Collins’ huge "Startup Applications" list at http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php. This list of over 13,000 startup items you may encounter in MSCONFIG tells you which items are absolutely necessary, which items are optional, and which items you should definitely uncheck.
Here’s a good example. On my computer I have a mess of MP3s and I listen to those MP3s with a program called WinAmp. For some reason or other, WinAmp decided that it should always be running on my computer even when I am not using the program. That’s silly. To prevent WinAmp from automatically starting every time I boot my computer, I ran MSCONFIG and unchecked "WinampAgent." That’s it.
Remember, disable only those programs that you recognize and don’t need to have running all the time. When in doubt, leave it on.
6. Click on the OK button.
7. A message will pop up telling you that you must restart your computer before these changes will take effect. Click on "Restart" and your computer will automatically reboot.
8. That’s it! Your computer should now boot faster and crash less.
And if you ever want to turn on any of the startup items you disabled with MSCONFIG, just run MSCONFIG again.
I use CCleaner all the time and have never backed up the registry. CCleaner will not make any changes to the registry that will cause problems.
There is a difference between memory and storage. If its 73% of the storage space that is used up, you could delete some system restore files (start>programs>accessories>system tools>disk cleanup). If it is 73% of the memory that you are talking about, you could disable some of the startup processes by also using CCleaner.
instead of saving your stuff on your local disc (C:) which is where your documents & settings and program files are, save them on data (D:) when you download and save like your music, videos, pics
Try to clean with the help of CCleaner, it will not spoil anything, u do not need to take tension…just do it …clean temp files, repair registry problems, and nothing will happen to delete movies form ur another drive…….try to see in task manager what program taking more memory..download ATF cleaner form net and tun it…it will clean temp files…..scan ur computer with a good antivirus it will help u…….
Removing stuff from your HDD won’t reduce memory usage. HDD is storage, RAM is memory. Look through the processes list (in task manager) and look for something that’s hogging system resources. You might have a virus of some sort.
Other then that, get more RAM.
73% of memory or 73% of hard drive space?
Since it sounds like you have more than enough hard drive space, I’m guessing that it really is memory that it the problem. Memory has nothing to do with your hard drives. It’s your RAM. Press ctrl-alt-delete and look at all of the tasks currently running. There may be something running in the background that is using up most of your memory. Deleting programs or files is not going to help; you either need to make your computer more efficient by not running some programs, or upgrade your RAM.
Just looked at your screenshots. If Firefox ALONE is using up most of your memory, you need to massively upgrade your memory, if not buy a new computer. I repeat, memory usage has nothing to do with hard drive space.
Put your little school boy pictures on CD’s or a removable drive
stop downloading anime porn and downloading illegal programs and movies.
have u tried formatting your computer?… lol
reboot, works well, deletes everything, but use an external hard drive to keep your important stuff, i cleaned out 10 gb’s rebooting figuring out all thsi crap i didnt need
Clear out auto loaded applications and get more RAM
Delete your porn
defrag
I use "Speeditup" freeware in frreing up my memory… you can search it on the net and download the software for free. It also has hard disk optimization/defrag features and you’ll notice that your computer’s performance runs faster by 20 – 30%.
