Returning to factory settings is the same as reformatting and reinstalling Windows (plus the freeware that was originally on your computer). After you do so it is a good idea to get Windows up to date before installing other programs…check for updates, update, check again, update, etc. It’s going to take a while to get caught up and get the service packs installed.
In the future avoid registry cleaners, they do nothing worthwhile but can seriously screw up a computer. You can keep your computer running fast by managing what programs load or run when Windows starts.
Hi,
There are 2 types of restores:
1) Using the System Restore tool, which will only update the registry and system files.
2) Using recovery media (usually CDs/DVDs) — you’re asked to create such media by OEM software immediately after the Windows installation is complete. If you’ve lost the recovery discs or never created them in the first place, you’ll need to contact your OEM (e.g., Dell, HP, etc.) so they can track down your serial number and give you what you need. (You will end up having an original version of Windows again.)
Cheers,
Bogdan
