a friend’s pc is infiltrated by trojans and it is in "deathbed" condition and it is most advisable now to reformat. problem is, due to the trojans, he can’t back-up his files. is it alright to do that so somehow it can get "cleaned" (that way we may be able to back-up) before totally reformatting?

u can install kaspersky free lab tool on his pc or nod32 free on line scanner or install avg 8 free from the web in safe mode with internet connection –than scan from safe mode— that way all the infections will be dormant
Sure.
You can try using the recovery disc that comes with Kaspersky, might not work if it’s not installed on his computer.
Also, what functionality does the computer have?
Maybe a computer store has a program that can remove all of the Trojans, if not, then you might have no choice but to reformat, files and all.
well u cannot do that, as kaspersky installs some files in the windows system dir and also the licence information, so just by keeping the destination to the flash drive is not going to completely install the antivirus to the flash drive.
moreover on pendrive you can only copy things not install.
anyways try this hopefully it works as it can copy the exe to your pendrive and you can use it anywhere on any system
