I have Verizon as my ISP and have the Verizon Security Suite as my virus protection for my desktop computer. I just bought a laptop and have connected it to the internet through a Belkin N wireless router. Do I need seperate virus protection on the laptop itself? Thanks!

The router (the Belkin router is a NAT hardware firewall) will stop unrequested data packets (a good thing), but almost always these ‘Security Suites’ are a packaged deal; made between some large outfit (like Norton or McAffee) and a service provider, and are of questionable value.
They certainly don’t stop a lot of the malware being spawned over the ‘net.
Get rid of the ‘Suite’; get Avast! (free); and make these crucial adjustments to your browsing:
#1 Get Firefox.
►FIREFOX: Tools> Options> Privacy> top drop menu set to "Firefox will use custom settings…"> Check ‘Accept Cookies from sites’
& Un-Check ‘Accept 3rd Party cookies’
This list is a few of the essential items you should have.
Note that the Internet is so fluid and dynamic, and exploits crop up almost hourly, it is imperative to stay current with all phases of Windows defensive measures, and keep all rubbish out: stopped @ your doorstep.

Most of these will confine your interaction with a website (which is a good thing: i.e. allowing you to verify if you want the interaction), but on the other hand, they speed up browser page loads, as they block a lot of the 3rd party assets being requested from alternate servers.
Maybe you need it, or you may want to install the same protection system onto your laptop, every computer needs antivirus, especially if they are connected to a network.
to a very small degree, but it is more for them protecting themselves then to protect you. It is always advised to get extra protection. AVG has a free anti virus that is pretty good. McAfee isn’t bad either. there is a paid version of AVG which is better, its my preference, well was til I moved to a mac 🙂
yes, definitely you need one. we cant just depend on the security provided by isp, otherwise, everyone would have been safe. if you need any suggestions, you can check this list of top antivirus software .. http://www.toptenservices.net/2009/03/24/top-ten-antivirus-programs/
although my isp is using symantec business edition, but i use kaspersky on my computer and i think it is a very good security software for computers and laptops.
