I would definitely upgrade the memory in that thing.
If it is a 2200LA, then kingston.com says you can put up to 1 GB in there, in the form of 2 512MB modules.
Get your complete model number (there’s probably some combination of letters after the 2200), and verify with HP’s site.
hey…………..
you have virus problem in your computer…please check if you have in your system ….task manager and folder option are disable …..
otherwise startup problem goto —>run —->type msconfig—> you got a one dailog box in that explorer startup tab select it…..unselect item in that startup problem…..unwanteded program should be uninstall
disk cleanup, defrag all driver you got 75% increase speed and install good antivirus…..
donot format your hard driver ,it reduced you memory in hard drive….i have experence
Your RAM is ridiculesly low !!!
Thats the first thing you should upgrade.
Look @ http://www.hp.com/support for the system specification, read the memory modul upgrade part of your manual, Its easy.
Increasing the memory surely will help.
Formatting the drive, well, maybe.
But if you have nothing to lose, and it’s not that hard for you to reinstall the whole system and you can do backup your data carefully then maybe it’s worth a try.
Good luck
EDIT:
If after reformatting and reinstalling the system and adding additional memory module, your computer still runs relatively slow, then maybe you should consider replacing the harddrive.
And yes, maintaining your computer ( remove junks, defrag, keep the antivirus up to date ) will help your computer overall speed in doing its tasks.
The max ram you can update is 1GB total. However, since you are showing 224MB and not 256MB of Ram, that means your video card is shared memory. So yu will have 1 GB minus 28 MB for the video. You should definetly reformat for faster performace if you have alot of data on the drive. I would do a full back backup, make sure you have the CDs for all of your apps, and reformat. Make sure when you do, you perform a full format and not a quick one.
This is the quickest and most effiecient way of getting your machine back to where it was. If you take advice from others who tell you to do a spyware and virus scan and all these checkups, isometimes it can take longer. Especially if you are running low on virtual memory. Also, you can check out your specs and what type of RAM you need under my sources. Good luck.
