I used avg antivirus for a while but then they tried to charge me for it… and it went back to free days later
I’m a big fan of open source and all that and clamwin is the open source option
Pros: free
Cons: it doesn’t do live scan like other products it just scans on demand, which is good if you have low resources on your computer

There are a few, but there are two in my HubPage that are considered the best. There are also other programs there for getting rid of spy/ad/mal-ware…
AVG is a great program and they offer a free package.

Your internet service provider might offer free internet security. I use ATT Yahoo and they have been providing Norton and then switched to McAfee. Both free services included Firewall and Anti-virus protection. Check to see if your provider offers these services for you. My brother uses a different ISP and he also receives free anti-virus.
Edit-I also have a free tool on my browser which warns me if a site is reported or found to be harmful. It is not an alternative to anti-virus protection but is useful as another tool to avoid harmful sites and downloads. Here is a link so you can read about it for yourself.

It is provided by McAfee.
