Scan your system with MalwareBytes & Reginout. It will help you.
I wouldn’t put much faith in the "Geek Squad". A few of them are competent. It’s hard to say without actually having the laptop. It’s the equivalent of telling a car mechanic "My engine is making this clunking noise". If they are going to charge you $130 for a service (that probably isn’t guaranteed to fix it). I would just do a clean re install of the operating system as a last resort.
The cheapest and most effective method is to just re-install the system. You should already have a Vista disc, making this free. Back up any data you have (all of your files, but not the whole hard drive; you don’t need the operating system details) to an external source. If you have an external hard drive, this is the best option, but otherwise DVDs, CDs, USB drives or even sending data via your network connection will do the trick. Just make sure you have enough space to save the data.
Once you have done that, you can boot from you Vista disc and choose a clean installation. You then, in effect, have a brand new system. You may have to install some drivers (again, all should have been provided on a CD by Asus), and then reload your documents. I suggest running a virus scan using AVG and Malwarebytes (both free and much better for your computer performance than Norton) before you start doing anything else, just to iron out any bugs that may have been brought over with your documents.
I hope this helps.
MalwareBytes AntiMalware and/or Spybot Search and Destroy. Make sure to download them from reliable sites.
If you have Norton and Geeksquad said they found 23 "traces of infection" then probably they found something like tracking cookies because if you had an actual virus then they would have to find a way to fix that before they returned your laptop to you.
You could run a program like Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php and see if it finds things that Norton doesn’t find but it sounds like your problem has to do with going on the Internet.
What were you doing before you started to go on Firefox or WoW. Were you using Internet Explorer? Did that work fine for you? Will it still work OK for you?
