   If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don’t always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

   First, if you haven’t cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC’s resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

   2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space.Here is how:

   1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser
   2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".
   3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.
   4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.

   1. De-Fragmenting

   If its running slow, you might have too many files on it. Try transferring some music or documents to a usb stick, or a time capsule if you have a mac. Good Luck!!!

   You’ve probably got a bunch of unnecessary junk running.

   Run the tool "msconfig" from the run prompt (Windows Key + R). Go to the services tab, and uncheck things you don’t think you need (like printer suites, java runtime, etc, things that don’t need to be running all the time.) and do the same with the startup tab.

   It sounds like it is time to take the final step – the one that will alleviate the problem for sure. Yes, you can run msconfig and stop all of the services that don’t need to be running, you can use Hijackthis to cleanup the bad programs that are running on your system and clear the broken .dll’s.
   What often causes the slowness, now that I think more on it, is having more than one antivirus program or more than one firewall running…
   if you has norton/symantec running on your machine and the license has expired, then you go and install another antivirus – man can that cause the machine to sloooo down, sometimes to the point where it won’t boot into windows.

   If you are sick and tired of messing with it, back up you important files and reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

   If you do have duplicate spyware programs or firewalls, you may be successful in uninstalling them and your machine will be OK after that.
   By the way, to completely remove Norton/Symantec products, go to their website and download their own ‘removal’ program.
