I have tried many registry cleaners on x64 like Registry Mechanic, CleanMyPC Registry Cleaner, Registry Medic, WinASO and 2 others which I cannot remember name. Among them, CleanMyPC is the only one which works well on XP x64. Although all of the cleaners I tried seem run well on x64, but actually all other cleaners are not safe to use on x64 based on my test. The key problem is those cleaners treat many good registry items as invalid on x64. For example, Registry Mechanic and winaso think ntbackup.exe is not in my system and want to delete the menu link to ntbackup from the programs shortcut menu, but in fact ntbackup.exe file does indeed exists on x64.
CleanMyPC Registry Cleaner is the only one which correctly identifies the registry keys and files on my XP x64 and it also shows me whether it is a 64bit registry problem or 32 bit after finding the problem. Note they have a 32 bit version and a x64 version, be sure to get the x64 version not the 32bit version.
You can get the CleanMyPC x64 Registry Cleaner from:
