There are many good registry cleaners and you have to be very careful when choosing one. Most of the websites online are affiliates and they recommend the product they eventually get most commission from.
I can suggest you Uniblue's Registry Cleaner http://www.liutilities.com/products/registrybooster/ This link is direct to their official website. I have been using it for couple years with no problem at all.
Uniblue have Microsoft Gold Partner Status, their products have won various awards and best of all, they offer great customer support.
I am using RegCure version number 1.404 and for me it's Ok, but two of my friends had some problems with RegCure after the first try:
1. One or two programs stop functioning correctly (Online Casino software);
2. Windows XP changed the system fonts to unreadable symbols. I helped him with the system restore.
So, it's risky, but you can restore your system.
I suggest you CCleaner (Freeware): junk file and registry cleaner, programs uninstaller and startup management. It’s very useful and safe program.

no regcure isnt the best but with these kind of software you cant be sure it is like hacking your registry you are modding it
I have used Registry Healer for 5 years with no problems. But you have to pay for it. They also try to include Registry Tuner in the package at a reduced price. But unless you are a technician or a geek, don't get the Tuner. I did and could never use it. But I really like Registry Healer and it has saved my PC heaps of times by restoration of the HDD.
