   at this point it sounds like a complete reinstall is the only way to go..

   time to bite the bullet and buy a new windows OS cd.

   There may be few suggestions

   1) U can try to use system restore with previous date.

   2) Before cleaning up reg hav u taken any backup? If yes run the backup.

   3)The worst way.. check which files or dll’s are missing.. copy from any other machine running XP.. paste it in your meachi..

   4)But the only and complete solution is finding out that recovery cd..

   Hi there.
   Have you tried System Restore

   Depending on how long you have been messing around trying to fix your problems
   Try restoring back to a date before this happened
   Go. Start.Programs.Accessories. System Tools,System Restore, and pick a restore date before the problems began

   Sometimes the best thing to do is to restore the entire machine back to its original state. But since you lost the restore CD this is not possible. One option is to purchase a copy of windows and start over. The other option is to use system restore like Flakes suggested. System Restore may help but if you are having registry problems it likely wont. Next time keep your software and manuals in a safe place. You will find a restore cd or a copy of an OS is used more often than you think.
