seems to be like a page file fault. what do you mean by ‘booting off of he disk’??
anyway now the best thing to do is to do a fresh installation of windows. you said that first time it went up to the log on screen and got the blue screen. that means there are no boot errors and i don’t still get how you tried to reinstall windows!!
to recover the video just plug the hard drive to another computer and copy the necessary files to that one.
try to install win 7 in the normal method. if you explain what this "so i had to try booting off of the disk" means i can help you to figure out a method.
