If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don’t always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.
First, if you haven’t cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC’s resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:
1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser
2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".
3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.
4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.
5. Click OK.
3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:
1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click "OK"
Other great tip is increasing your virtual memory to simulate more RAM. This will give you a bit more resources for multiple program use or CPU heavy programs.
Hope this link helps. Shows you how to do everything step by step. You should get a least 60-120% more resources and speed
if you follow the tips.
whats your Operating system?
If your using windows try using the Disk clean Up and disk defrag. Just click on:
START.> ALL PROGRAMS> ACCESSORIES>
SYSTEM TOOLS> DISK CLEANUP/ DISK DEFRAG
*You also need to Clean up unncessary files/ folders and delete any programs that you rarely or never use at all.

You were right on when you say that having a small amt of RAM affects the perfomance of your computer. It does. But i say, it depends on the person’s usage. if youre a person who uses computer for browsing the internet, MSN, YM, watch DVD, type in MSWord and make powerpoint presentations. Then I say invest in a computer/ laptop with at least 512mb to 1 gig of RAM. But if your more the techy / high gamer type of a person and You do computer graphics, then you need a more than that. ( 2 gig or higher)
Either way, it seems to me that the computer your using right now might not be working best for you. thus giving you more headache, slowing your work time and stressing you out.
Be honest with yourself, and access your computer , if you bought this computer way back in the 90’s tp early 2000 then its high time to invest in a good / usable computer soon. Dont try to fix the old one / or try to upgrade it as it would cost the same thing.
Remember. Computers are there not to rule over us. they are there to make our lives easier and hard makes tasks simpler THUS cutting our work time in half. it should not be a burden to use them.
Tell you what: Go to your local computer store such as Best buy or circuit city ask around and get the computer specs that fits your lifestyle and how you work.
trust me. it will be worth the trip!
🙂 regards!
Well, first off are you running windows XP (green start button) or 95/98 (more squarish , and a Grey colored start box). Delete a lot of stuff you really don’t need… close programs that are running you are not using, and try things like defragging or disk cleanup. (click start, all programs, system tools, the click two things, defragger, and disk cleanup) It should run faster.
1. Ctrl Alt Del.. this will launch TASK MANAGER Identify which programs are running. If there are loads follow step 3
.
2. Press the ‘Processes.tab and see if any of them are draining your resources. if you click on memory you can sort by highest first. now without seeing your computer telling you what they should be is difficult. i suggest you repost once you have looked . ie. should iexplore.exe be 129,000k ?
Now check your CPU numbers 00 is low 99 is high. you will find that 99 will drain your computer.
3. Windows 98 , xp etc.. BE CAREFULL !!!! Go to START .. RUN type MSCONFIG then enter.. then click the start up tab and dissable anything that you dont want running. the easiest way is . DISABLE ALL .. BUT !! Discconect your internet and when you restart your computer turn all VIRUS Protecters and FIREWALLS back on then recconect your internet.
Good luck
