All you need to know is what diskcleanup and defrag is.
Whenever you download lots of files ( or delete them for that matter ) the HDD is likely to get fragmented, which means files are not stored contiguously on the drive. A defragmenter puts these fragments back together sequentially.so that the HDD does not have to work more in order toread that file. Its always good to do diskcleanups regularly and defrag while there is enough free space, in fact make sure you have atleast 15% free space at all times. Not only does it take lesser time, it also keeps the drives free from stress and increases stability and life.
Before you defrag, its good to diskcleanup as it helps delete unnecessary files like the temporary files which get created when you use the internet, junk files like recyclebin which occupy space.
Both these can be accessed by going to start>Accessories> systemtools>
Alternatively you can use third party tools like CCleaner for diskcleanup and Diskeeper for defrag.
Dear
My solution can help you to speed up PC, to make the system run faster and more stable, and to make more disk spaces.
Method 1.You should often clean up temporary files folder.
This is because that several different applications will produce some temporary files by using the Windows. When you always surfing on the Internet, you might have frequently found the system disk got smaller and smaller in capacity. The system will save some temporary files in System disk after you visit the web page.If you don’t clean up temporary files folder in time, the disk space will be occupied by these temporary files and the speed will be dropped. What is more important is that a lot of virus and malicious procedures producing in the temporary files cause your systems to stop working.some activity information stored in files (C:\Documents and Settings\username\)
Method 2 Uninstalls your needless programs.
Open the install/uninstall Program, and Uninstall the software and Plug-ins
Method 3.You only need to download system cleaner software to resolve the problems about your PC. It cleans all things that you want, increases your PC speed, saves more disk space, and helps you to the trouble about hardware upgrade. You can click the website http://computer-optimize.com/ to find the satisfied software
I wish my solution could help you.

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some regsitry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".
Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you’ve installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it’s Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!
There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

You can download and scan your computer for free.
First , make sure your machine is not harboring viruses or spyware.
Next, if its computer operations (not Internet) that are slow, among your options is Disk Cleanup.
You can clean up junk from your hard drive by right-clicking C. In the menu box that comes up, left-click "Properties" . In the new box, left-click "Disk Cleanup" at bottom right. This process will calculate what can be saved and show you a list of choices to delete from the contents of the wastebasket to temporary files. Keep or change the choices offered and and run the cleanup.
Another thing you can do is select "Tools" from the header list in the properties box. This will offer you the opportunity to defragment your hard drive. Defragging puts the various pieces of your files back together from where they are scattered around your hard drive thereby reducing the seek time to get data.
Yet another trick is to terminate some of the processes that run on start-up. You can download free software that will identify all these processes. I use a very detailed listing from Process Explorer provided by http://www.sysinternals.com. This may be too detailed for you but if you are willing to learn a little, it can tell you almost anything you want to know about what’s running on your machine. However, don’t shut anything off until you know what it does and if it is unnecessary. You can usually find out by running a Google search on the process name.
Finally, there is a hardware solution – add more memory.
If the problem is slow Internet, that’s a different kettle of fish. The solutions here are tweak your Internet settings, Switch your ISP or upgrade your connection. If you are not comfortable tweaking the Internet settings, there are numerous free little pieces of software that you can download to do it.
Have fun, spend many hours playing!
Hi – I agree with 1 and 2 from the previous answer. Defragging is also very important. The easiest way is to open My Computer, right-click on your hard drive (usually C:), choose Properties, now click the Tools tab, and click Defrag Now.
If it has been a long time since you defragged (or never), I suggest doing this first:
Click Start, Run, enter:
cmd
to get a DOS prompt. Now enter:
chkdsk c: /f
this is the check disk command, and the /f tells it to automatically fix any problems it finds. Windows will tell you that it can’t run the chkdsk now, and ask if you want to schedule during the next reboot – say yes. Now reboot the PC (or enter:
shutdown -r -t 0
in the DOS window-shutdown and reboot in zero seconds). The PC will start to reboot, then run the chkdsk utility, then reboot again when it is finished. Now you should go on with the defrag detailed above – it might take several hours to complete, and your PC will be very slow while it is running, so maybe start it, and then head to bed – the PC will be faster in the morning – good luck
If you have a windows based computer, you should:
1. uninstall any unused programs.
2. delete any unused files.
3. defrag. It is a disk defragment program in the systems menu. It will scan the disk for used and unused space and relocate them into neat blocks.
