Hi,
A system slows down due to a variety of reasons, viz. file fragmentation, registry data fragmentation, a large number of installed programs, disk allocation by unnecessarily stored files, a number of items to load at the system startup, and so on.
What you need to do is increase the system performance by doing system optimization tasks listed below. Some of them can be easily done using a software called RegInOut available for download here: http://download.cnet.com/RegInOut/3000-2094_4-10965219.html?part=dl-10053761&subj=dl&tag=button
Doing all these system optimization tasks is recommended for at least once a week. This will help making your computer and internet experience faster.

RESOLUTION:

[A] Tasks to Make Your Computer Faster:
1. Defragment the disks
2. Defragment the system registry [Using RegInOut]
3. Fix the errors in the system registry [Using RegInOut]
4. Prevent execution of unnecessary startup and services items
5. Delete unnecessary files and stuff
6. Uninstall the programs that you never use
7. Install additional Memory (RAM)
8. Install a Graphics Card
9. Change settings for "Best Performance"; rather than "Best Appearance"
The step by step information to perform the above tasks is available on my blog here:

[B] Tasks to Make Your Web Surfing & Downloading Faster:
1. Disable unnecessary Add-Ons

(1) Disabling Unnecessary Add-Ons:
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click Tools | Manage Add-Ons.
3. In the "Show" drop-down box, select "All Add-Ons".
4. Disable those add-ons you no longer needed.
5. Click "Close" and restart the browser.
(2) Clearing Browser Stuff:
1. Download RegInOut.
2. Install it on your computer; and then run it.
3. Click "System Cleaner", and then "Clean" button.
Open Internet Explorer, and click Tools -> Delete Browsing History.

There’s a lot, lot of things makes your computer slow.. Registry, Deleted files, Services running on the background, Startup items, Installed programs, Desktop shortcuts, Fragmented Files, etc.

Your PC is constantly reading and writing to a registry while you work, or while you are playing games, on it. This all happens in the background without you even noticing. When your PC was new, this was no problem, but the longer you have your computer, the more programs you install on it and the more the registry becomes bloated and damaged. This is the reason that your PC is running slower and might crash all of a sudden without warning. Your computer needs to work hard to go through all the registry bloat, or it might simply crash if it comes across a faulty entry.A registry cleaner will scan and repair your registry.Frequent maintenance using a registry cleaner is crucial to make your computer go faster.I should like to commend Registry Easy http://perfect-your-computer.com to you !
"I am running Windows XP with 14.5GB//134 GB on my C drive". I assume this means that you have two partitions on the boot drive. This being true, how much free space is available on the windows partition. You should have approx 15% free. If not it’s time to dump the trash and uninstall stuff you don’t use, move files (pictures, music, etc.) to the other partition.
Malwarebytes and Ccleaner are good products. Advanced System Care (ASC) has also worked well for me it has several useful tools. The other items you list, I have no history on.
Run one of the free on-line virus scanners.
Click Start>Run>type msconfig>Startup tab>uncheck unnecessary items. If you do not know what some thing is Google the filename. The link provides some good suggestions

Good Luck
I never heard any of those Scanners before, but get like Trend Micro Anti-Virus Protection or Norton Anti-Virus. Something normal that you see. I go to Target and bought my Trend Micro, and it deletes cookies and viruses automatically. You might want to check your applications and delete the ones who don’t need or use. I have a Windows Vista and it usually works fine. Make sure you don’t download a lot of applications and stuff. Try clearing your Internet history. Hope it works.
Start Task Manager (right click on Task Bar) and check on what processes are running.
Also you may not have enough RAM. Task Manager will also tell you how much RAM is being used.
how much RAM do you have installed?
what is the speed of your processor?
Well how old is it
Windows 7 recommends less infection, faster, stable and reliable
