Maybe you have hardware problems such as bad RAM, a failing hard disk, or some component overheating. Eliminate these possibilities by getting someone knowledgeable to look at the system if you are not familiar with the procedure. You can download and run MEMTEST for checking the RAM, and download and run the manufacturer’s diagnostic software for the drive. Check if all the fans in the case are running properly so that there is no overheating.
Once you have eliminated hardware problems as the root of the slowdowns, you can do the following.
(1) Run a FULL anti-virus scan with a good virus scanner. Get free editions of Avast or Antivir. Use the latest virus definitions file. But don’t install or run more than one anti-virus at the same time.
(2) Run anti-spyware scans with Spybot S&D and malwarebytes.

wow ive been there.. i just downloaded registry fix and it made my computer a lot faster than it used to be. it all has something to do with the errors happening inside your computer when you download something. im not very techinical though so i would just go to their website
If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don’t always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.
First, if you haven’t cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC’s resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space.Here is how:

3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.

2. Click Run

5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

De fragmenting and cleaning your registry may help. It really depends on how old your computer is and what you have running in it. It may be time to buy a new one.
If you have the restore disks you can back up all your data and restore it to the way it was when you bought it. You would have to reinstall all your programs and update it after that.
