The Windows Registry serves as a central hierarchical database that used to store vital information to configure the PC for one or more users, applications and hardware devices. It contains essential data that Windows continually references during operations such as setting profiles for each user, details about the applications installed on your computer and the types of documents that an application can create, what all hardware exists in the system, the ports that are being used, etc. In addition, the Windows registry digs a window into the running kernel to keep watch over the runtime runtime information such as performance counters and currently active hardware.
With continuous usage, the processes of installation, reinstalling and uninstall bring a massive bunch of empty registry keys, embedded and obsolete entries. The old and outdated system spam may not do any harm to your system but sometimes they will give it havoc. Or some kinds of malwares intend to attack your system through the way of hiding in the registry. To solve the problem, invest a registry cleaner to tidy up your empty registry keys and outdated entries is an efficient and practical way of keeping your system running stable.

Microsoft Registry Problems = Slow Computer!
The Windows registry, Containing information and settings for all the hardware, software, users, and preferences of your computer, whenever you make a change to the Control Panel settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in the registry.
When the Windows registry becomes very large, your computer’s can become very slow and it can cause it to be unstable.

1st you have to get rid of all those stuff norton in my opinon sucks sorry to the company or people who use it! Anyway download from cnet or download.com download avg free and delete the stuff that are useless. That will make your computer slower or that the internet or lanline you connected to is horrible signal.
"You must understand that this will use a sky high percentage of memory" that is exactly right! And btw why did you buy a pentium 4 in ’06???? those were way outdated. Just reformat vista only install avira free, OR avg free, OR avast free JUST 1, it slows your PC down to be running more than 1 AV! Btw Norton sucks it uses too much ram. Still how did you get a brand new PC in 06 with a Pentium 4 those will have major problems running vista. You could always Try LINUX UBUNTU its free and uses virtually no resources (I got it running on a pentium 4 with only 256mb of DDR)
You sound like my brother here. Everything that comes out you have to have for your computer and like him you are close to system BURN OUT. For one you have the system handling "3" hard drives then the nvidia at 512 MB. Vista in the first place is not as good as XP. I got it and wound up throwing it in the trash. I reloaded mine with XP again as I could see Vista was slower and programming not as good as XP.
When you have too many hard drives it is like as if we try to drive different cars at the same time. A computer will do things "faster" if it has LESS to handle. I keep telling my brother this yet he gets a new computer practically every year because he keeps burning out his systems. He just bought one less than 6 months ago and is already complaining he burned out the DVD drive from all the music he downloads and "burns" to listen to while on the road when he is working. Your best bet is to invest in ONE hard drive big enough to handle ALL your needs rather than running 3 separate ones on the system. This in itself will SPEED UP the entire system a lot as it will not have to load so much THEN decide between them.
You are using too much hard disks like a foolish! Why all these? You must understand that this will use a sky high percentage of memory. Don’t forget, you could use only 1 hard disk for your files to before stored. By the way, windows xp is better than vista. Concerning the cleaner software, why you have to buy? I think, you are a zero on softwares. Download perfect utilities, its free. It has all you want. Its better than these paid cleaner softwares! And for Windows 7, I would recommend you to wait the SP2 to release as there will be criticisms and bugs on it. Mind you!
I would also suggest running Spybot Search and Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html
and Malwarebytes
http://malwarebytes.org/
When is it slow? At boot up? Only when accessing the internet?
If it is slow at boot up this could indicate a driver issue in which I would use a program like Driver Cleaner (however, Driver Cleaner free only supports up to XP, though there may be one comparable (free) that will support Vista, I just haven’t looked yet)
If it is slow when accessing the internet, this could be malware/spyware/adware blocking it up. You can also change browsers to something like Google Chrome. I use Chrome and have really enjoyed its speed.
Also, I have found the Symantic products, such as Norton Security, have bogged down some of my systems. I say some, because I had a 98 machine that ran beautifully with Norton, but a 2000 and XP machine that was at a snails pace because of it. I now use AVG Free along with utilities such as Spybot and Malwarebytes to keep my systems going strong.
Good luck!!
Your computer specs are very close to the same as mine, except I have a 250 GB hard drive. And my computer is super fast. The difference could be in the ISP. I have AT&T DSL extreme 6.0
yea hes right get rid of all that gay crap
does nothing to your computer
Wow. 1. Get rid of Norton. It’s terrible "protection" and slows down your computer.
2. Uninstall all that "cleaner" crap.
3. Get Avast! Antivirus. It’s free.
4. Get Spybot Search and Destroy. It’s free.
That’s it. Don’t use anything else, ever.
First of all, these cleaners are just waste of memory and money. There is no need for these craps. Also Norton Internet Security 2010 makes your CPU super slow (with Vista combination, its worst). I’ve used Windows Vista Home premium Sp2 with Norton Internet Security 2009 on my Core2Duo 2.93 GHz with 4 GB of DDR2 RAM but Norton even made my CPU slow. So I changed my anti-virus to eset nod32. It is one of the best anti-virus and thats for sure that it won’t slow down your PC.
Hope I helped.
