Ugh, no fun.
Well laptops can get slow from un-installing and reinstalling software, hard drives becoming fragmented, viruses and so on.
The software you mentioned is the first thing I will talk about.
Registry cleaners are not a good idea. My experience with them is they have messed my computer up more then fix it. Make sure your backing up things when using registry cleaners because they are dangerous.
Next is your spyware defense.
I also used spybot and ad-aware for a long time. Spybot is getting old and isn’t as good at keeping up with the latest threats as it used to be. Ad-aware was also a very good program, however their newest one is much harder on your system and can slow your computer down.
I have a few other suggestions for anti-spyware you might find useful. The links in my resources (best-security-pt1.html)
Their are a few things you can do to help you speed up your laptop.
First of all clean it. Get out the dust and clean it up. This is a way to get a bit more speed. A complete guide to cleaning a laptop is also in my resources for your viewing enjoyment (laptop-maintenance.html).
Next thing is to defragment your hard drive, clean it of junk etc. There’s six cleaning things you can do that all together do a pretty good job at speeding up your laptop. Once again the link is in my resources (why-computers-slow.html).
If you do all this and still have problems go into safe mode and scan for adware, spyware and viruses.
If THIS doesn’t come up with anything then you might have bigger problems. Try system restore and if that doesn’t work then backup your hard drive and reformat. Hopefully you won’t need to do that.
Sorry that’s so long. I hope it can help.
Good luck!
Try removing things from you start up folder.
Ad-aware and AVG is garbage. Spybot is ok. Get avast! antivirus, spysweeper and spyware doctor antivirus, and use jv16 Powertools for your registry cleanup. These are professional tools. I have been in the business of cleaning up computers, optimization and repair for years and this is what I use. My 3 year old HP with a 2.08GHZ Althon XP with 1GB RAM starts up in about 30 seconds flat and accesses the internet with Firefox in about 3 seconds after startup. Also, download a program called DFT, burn it to disc and boot to it. It tests your hard drive for failures. If it fails, your hd needs to be replaced.
get a new one
lol, it looks like I found your problem. All those programs will definetly bog you down. I think it is reformat time.
