Solving “Computer Freezing Randomly” Issue Step-by-Step
http://www.fix-computer.org/fix-computer-freezes-or-running-slow/solving-computer-freezing-randomly-issue-step-by-step.html
from what i read you may have 2 problem’s
first your virtual memory (or page file ) is to high
should be 4.5 gb (ram) plus 50% = 6.7 to 7 gb (mine 3 gb and 4.6 gb page file)
second power supply should be 400watts min
and at present i have 85 processes working /vista sp2
right click computer if you want to change page file
select properties
select advanced system setting
select advanced
select performance …..setting tab
select advanced
select ….change tab
untick automatic
click custom size
type in 7000 click set then ok and shut every window
Any type of freezeing on a Computer is usually a Power supply problem, your probably using too much wattage or volts that your current powersupply or PSU can handle, since you say your GPU needs 350 watts and your CPU is only 300watts its not really a big deal its mostly on Ampers for GPUs a cheat PSU that has 900watts isnt better than an decent priced PSU thats 600watts.
When you load a power supply down the voltages drop. A 300w supply is minimal even without your new video card. It sounds like you’re overloading the supply. Dirty power is one of the most overlooked problems in a pc. When voltages drop, data gets corrupted. Remember we’re working with 1’s and 0’s in a range of as low as 3v for a 1 and 0v for a 0. When power gets noisy errors occur. So a machine language (binary) instruction of 64 bits has a minimum of 64 possibilities for error. Power supplies are relatively cheap. That is the first thing I would change. Add up all your loads. IE: motherboard+video+any usb devices not self powered+all drives+memory+any other cards you may have installed, then add a 30% margin. Why? Because it is never good to run any device at its maximum capacity always allow extra for surges. This is common engineering practice.
After that download some testing software like Sisoft’s Sandra. This is a benchmarking and "burn in" test software that will stress your system. you can run each subsystem at a time or all in a session. This will find any hardware problems. Then its a question of software. I am running Vista 64 on one of my machines (an athlon 64 single core), and except for the normal vista complaints don’t have a problem (although I do like windows 7 a whole lot better.). Hope that helps.
