   I find with XP that the more you put on you harddrive the longer it takes to shutdown or startup. When you first install XP its very fast….a few seconds. But put 4 movies, 50 games, 500+ pics onto the harddrive as I did last night, it takes a full minute to shut down and then restart, another full minute. Its not at all unusual.

   That’s ALL??! Hate to tell you this- but the time it takes a computer to boot, is about as CLOSE to "instant gratification"- as you’re going to get. Windows XP is notoriously slow to load, & if you’ve got it down to a minute- then you’ve got it made. … 🙂

   Well, that boot time is not all that unusual. It is a little high for your configuration and a fresh install of windows, but not way too high.

   Does it only do this sometimes?

   Whenever you install new programs or make updates, the computer will take longer than normal to reboot.
