just visit cnet at download.com…there is a free tutorial to speed up ur os….
First I would defrag the hard drive.
Go to:
1. Start
2. Programs
3. Accessories
4. System Tools
5. Disk Defragmenter
Select the Main Hard Drive (C:) and then hit Defragment.
Let it sit there and finish. Once complete go to:
1. Desktop
2. My Computer
3. Right click on the Main Hard Drive (C:)
4. Hit properties
As soon as a window pops up look at the pie chart. Under the pie chart is a button that says Disk Cleanup. Click that button. A new smaller window will appear. Check off all the selections in the checkbox scroll window. Then hit ok. Once that is done go to this website: http://www.download.com/Advanced-WindowsCare-Personal/3000-2086_4-10407614.html?part=dl-AdvancedW&subj=uo&tag=button&cdlpid=10407614
Hit the Download Now button to download the software.
Once the software is downloaded install it. Next open the software after it’s been installed. Click scan and let it run. Once it is done, it will ask you if you want to fix all the problems. Hit fix.
Well that should get it going a lot faster. One of my friends had a very similar problems. If it still doesn’t get much faster then just click on my profile and send me an e-mail. Good Luck!
ok do a disk cleanup
click My Computer or Computer in the Start button. Click the drive and right click it, then click disk clean up. This will clear up usless system files that are no longer used.
Clean the registry use this free program , http://www.abexo.com/free-registry-cleaner.htm
This may take a long time but it may fix it.
Uninstall programs, delete old documents and songs.
try to increase virtual memory.
BUy some more ram. The best thing that I can recomend for the aging computer is to buy some more ram for it. Go to a local computer store with your tower and ask them if they can get you fitted for some new memory witch is the cheapest way that you can speed up your old PC
formayyt comp, reintastall programs ada memory cards remove virus remove delete temp files
The most common reason for slow running is too many background utilities installed!
Get rid of all, except WiFi and protection utilities.
an immeditate quick noticeable fix is to right click on your my computer icon and go to the advanced tab. Go to the performance section, and press the settings button. From there, at the top click on the radio button that says "custom" below in the box, uncheck everything except for the bottom 4 boxes. This will take off the animation effects and etc that you dont really notice anyway. press ok and ok. Now to fix up your computer, download the following from http://www.download.com
advanced windowscare personal 6mb
ccleaner 3mb
auslogics defrag 1.5mb
run each of these and keep for future use. You shoudl notice a big differene in your computers performance.
I’m sorry but the information provided is useless. A sony computer would be liking saying it is a Ford car. Is it a 2007 Ford GT or a 1910 Ford Model T?
Unless you or your friend know someone you would class as a geek, the only way to make it faster will be by replacing it with a new faster model.
Upgrade RAM and CPU. Those two are responsible to how fast your computer will act and respond.
Run Ccleaner including Registry.

Look through all installed programs in Add and Remove programs and remove ones she does not use.
Type msconfig in the Run from Start button and check ‘Selective Start-up’. Under Start-up menu disable programs which she does not need as Windows starts (they will work anyway when you open them later). Restart the computer. Rid of the icons she does not use from the desktop.
Type temp, %temp% and prefetch in the Run and delete them.
Run Windows update (High Priority and Custom, both).
Open Start – Accessories – System Tools – Disk Fragment and run it.
slow can come in so many different forms and shape.
it can be a hardware related issue meaning the hardware is old.
It can be some component inside the computer causing the pc to be slow.
It can be the software issue, may be too many application running at the background causing the system to slow.
It can be combination of all of the above.
I would recommend one thing to check. Run the task manager and see what are the process running in the background. And what are the CPU and memory usage on the computer.
If there is some application using up the resource of the computer, try to disable it or close it.
If the computer is getting old, then replace it with newer one.
Sometimes, it can be the windows going bad. Try to create a different account/user, then loggon to that account to see if that speed things up.
a virus scan or four. and remove programs she’s not using. and also move music onto an external drive if she has a lot.
clear cookies, restore default settings of internet explorer..
update anti-virus/firewall software..
A computer repair shop can sometimes clean all the junk files up and make it a little faster. If you are talking about slow when she’s on the internet, the problem might be her internet connection and not her computer.
clean the caches 🙂
reboot the computer using the CD that came with it.
it might have some virusus because once my computer was running super slow too and i had a bunch of pop ups saying buy antivirus and it scans and says hoe much risks it had and it had about 50,000 so i went to best buy and bought a norton 360 cd and it fixed the whole thing like i just bought it so if it has risks thats what i did
