   First, before you try to clean or scan your system shut down any downloads. Consider using a second or even third spyware scanner, I use spybot and adaware. CCleaner is a good system scrubber. Each of these programs do not run in the background and only use resources when you use them. It sounds like your Internet explorer temp files may be corrupted (hence the crash) CCleaner will fix that if that is the problem.

   No comments about the torrent downloads and the inherent risks…

   Hard drive fragmentation will severely affect the speed and reliability of your computer. Fragmentation is often the cause of system malfunctions such as system hangs, program errors or a complete crash.

   So defrag your hard drive, better yet, install an automatic defrag like Diskeeper, you can download free trialware at http://www.diskeeper.com.

   And for good measure…
   Delete any unused or unnecessary programs and files. These may be taking up space, memory and resources, thus slowing your computer. Also delete your cashe/ temp files, empty your recycle bin, clear your internet browsing history, etc.
