In addition to running a disk defragment program, getting rid of spy-ware, adding RAM, and deleting unused files, there are some other "tricks" to speed things up. There are some settings you can adjust in the system control panel applet where display items can be changed or turned off if you don’t need them or use them. This is a "cut the fat" approach that can be very effective when you total up all these little wasted memory hogs such as "highlight newly installed programs" or "open sub-menus when I pause on them with my mouse".
There are also tweaks you can do to the registry that can make you feel like you have a new PC. For details on these things, I recommend a book titled: Windows XP "The Missing Manual" at your local book store for $20.00. Well worth it!
only 2 choices
—more budget—
1. upgrade your PC through its processor and RAM [recommended] or you also can change its Motherboard, HD, and VGA – if you gamers .
—less budget—
2. You can tweak it by tune up software or Overclock if it’s possible.
NB: I hope you are using Win XP in this case…
you should do this once a month or more depending how much you use your PC
go to start all programs ,accessories,System tools in there you will see Disk cleanup and Disk Defragmenter.
(if you never did this before it will take awhle but your pc will run much Smoother)

ad aware is a free program that gets rid of cookies, get thats. and there is a disk cleaner in your computer its called desk cleanup search it and run it. the reason your computer is slow is b/c 1. you have too little GB or 2. you have little memory(ram)
Do a Disk Defrag. A Defrag should be done weekly to monthly depending on the Internet usage. You should also use Norton system works or something like it. A memory manager wouldn’t hurt either.
There are two most common causes of slowness.
1. Too many programs running in the background (take a look at running processes by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL all at the same time). Ideally, you want to be as low as possible (mine is around 40) while still running essential software such as your antivirus.
2. Not enough RAM. Windows XP needs a minimum of 512MB & Windows Vista needs a minimum of 1GB to run efficiently and not drive you crazy with the slowness.
Related to #1 above, you might have a SPYWARE infection that your antivirus program is not catching. Try downloading & installing a trial version of Webroot Spy Sweeper ( http://www.webroot.com ) & see if that picks up anything.
