Hi,
I had the exact problem with my Vista system, after i changed (get back to XP) the prob have been resolved.
BTW, you are not right, Creative are the best in the sound, the problem is your Vista.
You can try to reinstall Vista or to avoid all future problems, install XP. It should fix your problem.
First of all, I appreciate the amount of information you’ve given, that helps a lot actually.
When you place the card in the PCI-E slot, does the computer at least say (in Windows) "unknown device detected"? To check, type "devmgmt.msc" in the start–>run dialog box, and look first in the sound area, and expand it by clicking on the plus sign next to the sound devices category. If there is either 1) A device named "Unknown Device" or 2) a device with an exclamation point next to it, that’s great (in terms of my assistance and possibility to help).
If it says either of those two, that means that windows knows there’s something there, meaning it’s not just neglecting to detect this device. Even better, if #2 is what you see, that means it knows what device it has detected, but it can’t (or has problems) installing the drivers for that device.
Now, on to the attempted fix part. If you saw either of those two, right click on the listing and select uninstall from the drop down box. Once the device is gone entirely, then you may shut down your computer, and prepare to open it up. [After Shutdown, and unplugging the computer, hold down the power button to discharge the capacitors so you don’t get electrocuted. Holding down for 5 seconds should do the trick].
Take the card out of where it currently is, and ensure that the connection pieces are fully intact, meaning no scratches on the gold. Also be sure to take out any dust seated in the card slot, as this could cause some massive problems for your card functionality. Finally, re-seat the card on the motherboard’s slot, and close up your box. Rebooting windows, check the status of the device in devmgmt.msc. It should appear again, maybe without the exclamation point, but if it doesn’t appear, change slots and repeat the entire process again. Continue doing this until you’ve exhausted all of your PCI-E slots.
If your problem is anything like the one I had, where it just doesn’t work at all, then this is the fix.
