   You can’t scan without a software. All products both free or not offer free scans. Free registry cleaners only clean the registry, you will need a complete package to clean, defrag and optimize your Windows registry.

   I personally use Uniblue’s Registry Booster http://www.liutilities.com/products/registrybooster/ Uniblue are even Microsoft Gold Partner Certified.

   Try running Online scanner like GarbageClean http://www.GarbageClean.com it does complete registry and file scan.

   Check out these 2 sites.
   I downloaded both of these from microsoft with no cost to me as they are aprt of the windows programs. I’ve used the defender to scan my pc before and after I use my regeistry cleaner.

   You can use regcure and other registry cleaner softwares listed at http://re7.info . Most offer free scans
