Number one is you get what you pay for. Norton Systemworks or something like it is the way to go as they are better at cleaning the registry. And you know cleaning it is not something that really needs to be done unless you have a problem…….. even if you had backed it up elsewhere you would have had issues. But that said….
As someone else said your best option is to reformat your drive. Look in my computer and they should be a "d" drive. This is where your restore stuff is stored. If so, you hit one of the "f" keys during bootup and it will take you there. Then do it. Alternativly you may have recieved a restore disk with your computer.
If you have none of this there are sites where you can download a restore disk for your model or you can order one. I did this and they fedexed me one for free the next day. I have the built in but I wanted the disk as well.
Some may tell you to go and do this and that with your registry or attempt to restore it….. etc. etc. But be very careful. Do something wrong and you may find you have an unbootable machine.
you may also try system restore on your computer.
if that fails… you can call the oem’s technical support.
This is why many copy the registry to another storage device so they can merely copy it back should something like this happen. The program you used should allow you to restore the Registry to the pre-cleaned state. I would contact the manufacturer for technical assistance if it won’t do that.
Short of that measure, the only thing I can think of is to format the hard drive and start by reinstalling windows and then all the other programs you have installed since purchase and then re-customize everything to your liking.
Now, some computers have the drive already partitioned which would allow you to restore without re-formatting. You have to look at the paperwork/manuals that came with your machine at purchase to see if you have that option.
