Are there any free registry cleaners? Will they improve processing speed? I have a Pentium III, 512mb RAM, and 80 gig hardrive with about 45% used. Processing is slow of late.

RegScrubXP is my registry cleaner of choice. It is free and works very well. I find that it even cleans up items that other cleaners miss. You can also run it multiple times to be sure your registry is squeaky clean. This will be a minor improvement to your processing speed. You should also make sure that your hard drive is defragmented on a regular basis with the built in defragmenter tool.
Another thing that will help with speed issues is to turn off all of the fancy animation and theme junk in XP. You can do this by right-clicking My Computer and selecting properties. Then select the Advanced Tab and select Performance Options. Choose Adjust for best Performance and click Apply.
