Time, and and time again the answer to all my computer problems has been "Get a registry cleaning program". It’s getting a little annoying now, as every program (about 6) that I’ve tried won’t actually fix my PC errors unless I pay them. so what I need to know is: does anyone know of a registry cleaner that will scan AND fix PC errors totally for free?
Thanks.

You should only use one virus program at a time. ie avg and not norton
CCleaner is a good program but if your computer is over a year old the best maintainance you can do for it is to back up your data (music, documents, photos, etc.) and do a fresh install of your OS. Reinstall your applications and then put your data back where it came from.
Once everything is just the way you want it, run the Disk Cleanup utility (Start>Accessories>System Tools>Disc Cleanup) to clean out all the garbage. Then defragment your drive (also found in system tools) and then do a complete system backup (also in system tools). If you don’t have the Backup utility in System Tools then you can install it off your original Microsoft Windows disk. Just explore the disk to Valuadd>Microsoft>NTBackup. Double click on NTBackup and it will install the utility in about 3 seconds.
It will start in the Backup Wizard. When you choose what to backup, check the box for "C drive" and "System State". Put your backup file on a seperate drive such as a flash thumb drive (probably 8 gig at least) or a USB backup drive. Maxtor has some good ones. Next year when you reinstall your OS again, just run the backup utility and choose "Restore". That will put you right back where you are today without the accumulated garbage.
Life will be good again!
