I would suggest looking at "EasyCleaner" (available at: http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm). Before cleaning your registry, I suggest that you back it up using ERUNT (available at: http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/). After you’ve cleaned the Registry, you might want to optimize it. NTREGOPT (also available at: http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/) does the trick. Both ERUNT and NTREGOPT are rock-solid.
Suggest you take a look at CCleaner. Totally free, easy to use, easy to uninstall if you don’t like it. Been using it for a couple of years with zero problems. And it offers to automatically create a backup of your registry before it does anything to it. I put my backup on a CD-RW. Never had to use it though because CCleaner is just that good.

I’d definitely recommend reading the Help & Support section and take the Quick Tour. And if you decide to use it, I’d also recommend the default settings until you get used to it. From the Texas Hill Country, ya’ll have yerself a mighty fine day now.
