I never liked Windows Vista.
I would recommend getting a new computer with Windows 7.
You shouldn’t have that problem on a new computer.
If you have a computer that is running Vista then it can’t be that old.
It freezes when you run video so there may be a graphics error have you checked to see if you have the latest and best drivers for your graphics card, if not go to the computer makers site and then to their support and download section and search to see if there are any driver files for your machine.
Check to see if your running any unneeded software (remove all the old programs you no longer need or use) clear your system of the old left over files http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ is a good program to do this, it can also assist in the cleaning and sorting out of the registry.
It sounds to me like it’s a hardware fault and my first check would be the memory (RAM). You would be best to take it to a mate who knows a bit about computers to try a few things, or a computer store but you can’t always trust them. They’re like car dodgy mechanics!
Your PC might have two banks of memory installed and if this is the case then try pulling out one of them. It will still run, just with less memory. One of the banks may be at fault. If it still freezes, then swap the memory banks around – put it back in and take the other out. If it still does it, then you’ll be best to get a new motherboard. ** MAKE SURE THAT YOU SWITCH OFF THE PC AND PULL OUT THE POWER PLUG WHENEVER REMOVING COMPONENTS FROM INSIDE THE CASE!!! **
If it’s a new PC and still under warranty, then you should contact the company and get them to fix it.
I think that the CD recovery disk thing is asking you to have a CD burning drive with a minimum of "16x" speed. 16x is a standard speed. It doesn’t mean 16 actual discs. So put a blank disc in and give it a try.
try tuning up your harddrive by going into my computer and right clicking your main drive and going to properties. Look through the tabs and do error checking. make sure you do disk defragmentation.
This defiately looks like a problem with your hard drive and it may need to be replaced if it can’t be fixed this way.
If you can find someone who has a Vista OS disk, backup your files onto flash drives (or whatever you have laying around) and then reinstall your Operating System. This is what would probably (most likely… 98% sure) would happen if you took it to someone to get it fixed. Also, check that you have enough RAM to run Vista. The performance requirements for Vista are through the roof.
the way you describe the problem, I would suspect an overheating problem
1.- look on the back of the PC and see if the Fan on the power supply is spinning, if it is not or it is running to slow that is your problem, you can try changing just the Fan (some soldering required) but more likely the Power Supply is damaged and it would be better off replacing it.
2. switch off your PC and check that the CPU Fan is spinning, running properly not too slow, and it is cleaned, not full of dust. If it is not working properly you need to replace it.
give the motherboard and Power supply a good clean, you can use a vacuum cleaner just don’t touch any component on the motherboard keep a decent distance (15cm away or more should do)
If everything looks ok then do the following
3.- Test the PC memory
in a working PC
dowmload this program
http://www.memtest86.com/
click on the Free download
then click on ‘ISO image for creating bootable CD (Windows – zip)’
burn it to a CD and boot the PC with it, make sure the PC boots from the CD first
let it run and if any errors they will show in red on the bottom half of the screen, if that is the case buy new RAM for the PC
if test ok,
4.- then check the HDD
to do this you can use this program
http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?lo…
select the ‘Sea Tools for DOS’
they will ask you for your email address it is OK, you can put a fake email address
burn it to a cd and reboot the PC with the cd in
run a full scan of your HDD
any HDD errors will be shown here
if errors you will nedd to replace the HDD
if after all this your PC is still playing up then you need a new PC because the only thing left are the motherboard or the CPU or both, and replacing them means a new PC.
now you are a graduated PC Tech
