I would suggest first by running some registry cleaners.Frequent computer use makes the registry fragmented and cluttered with obsolete and invalid data.
Here’s a list of the top registry cleaners:

The problem you’re experiencing can most likely be cleared up by adding extra RAM to your motherboard and/or getting a more powerful video card.
well you could to get 1-2 extra gb’s of ram
a new video card (i preffer nvidia but it doesnt matter)
What Kind of Video Card Do you have?
Sounds like you should have a fairly fast computer. If you had some spyware or a virus, a registry scanner would give you unreliable results. If you had registry corruption, defragging would not help.
Get a free spyware scan and a free virus scan. If you have a virus scanner, you probably do or Widows XP would keep bothering you to get one,get a free spyware scan anyway. Most virus scanners don’t get rid of all spyware and spyware will slow down your computer. If you have to buy a spyware cleaner, bite the bullet and do it.
Once you are sure you have no spyware or viruses, that’s the time to run a registry cleaner. It will be effective then.
