   they need to give you the main login…that way you can go into control panel, administrative tools, local users, and enter your own name as an admin on that local account. But you need the admin login to do that….passwords are encrypted in XP.

   something about this post makes me think the computer is stolen.

   get the password from the person who gave it to you.

   Ask for the password, or take it to a pc shop. They might be able to get in. I forgot mine from ages ago and the person from the pc shop got in without the password. Good luck

   Reformat and reload the hard drive…best way I have found to refresh an old PC.
