I think the computer has had enough and it’s time for you to get a new one. I really don’t think the computers speed will get any better if you get an external hdd. so, it would really be a better choice if you buy a new computer.
The problem with slow computers is that most of the time. It’s all to do with a hidden part of your system .This part of your system is called the ‘registry’ and is a huge database which stores all the settings and options for your PC.The reason why the registry is responsible for making your computer run slow is because it is actually prone to getting corrupt and damaged. Because Windows is constantly using the database when you’re using your computer, it’s constantly got 100’s of registry files open. This unfortunately means that Windows gets confused, leading it to save the registry files wrong, making them incredibly difficult for your computer to read. Think of them as files which are all jumbled up, making your computer have to spend longer to read them. You just need to be able to clean out all the damaged files from the registry, allowing Windows to read all the files it needs, when it needs them. And to do this, you just need to use a tool called a ‘registry cleaner’.I should like to commend Registry Easy to you !http://clean-computer-run-quickly.com
I would say Use a good PC optimizer and Registry cleaner such as Reginout to make your computer faster
I agree with Smarty. But, if reinstallation is not an option, you can backup and move files to an external drive and move to defrag, clean registry errors, and disable some background programs. A RAM upgrade might be in order. What size HD? Depends on your needs but a nice 500GB with a eSATA port, should you ever upgrade, would be nice.
7 years old.. Vista or XP?
your better off replacing the junker, 7 years does a lot of things to a computer, the hd wears out, the processor becomes obsolete, dust craps up everything… you can get a toshiba for 350 bucks. should look into it…
This is like asking ‘Could I speed up my car if I took out the seats and all the other heavy parts, put them in a trailer and pull the trailer?’ 8^)
If your computer is 7 years old, it would probably benefit incredibly from a re-installation of Windows. Computer operating systems (Mac too) accumulate errors and corruption over time. If you back up all your data, re-partition and re-format your disk, re-install Windows and start from scratch, you’d be surprised how much faster it runs.
You only need an external HDD if your 200 gb disk is close to being full. Even then, it won’t speed the computer up (much), it just gives you more room for stuff.
