I have a Toshiba laptop and my CD/DVD drive suddently stopped being recognized by the computer. I was working with some DVD movie maker software to transfer old movies to DVD’s and now it’s like I don’t even have DVD drive. It worked a couple of days ago. Ran a diagnostic and it failed. Is there something I can do?
Pinnacle is the manufacturer of the software for the movie maker and they say that this is a common problem and says to change a particular item in the registry. I am very afraid to change anything in registry.

This has happened before but it was always related to software. I have put no new software on. I have done a diagnostic and it says everything is ok. This is a Dell Inspiron 9300. My anti virus says no viruses and my spysweeper says no spyware. I did get a message a couple of days ago from my antivirus that said it had quarrantined something that could possibly be a virus. I deleted it and scans since then come up clear. I am also getting a message from my fire wall that says something about ICMP Echo Request (‘Ping’) from (IP addy) and it’s blocking it. Any ideas?
I use avg antivirus, spysweeper, and zone alarm firewall.

Question pretty much sums it up, a couple of days ago I got the Antivirus XP Pro 2009 Malware/Data Miner/Trojan and I’ve been working around the clock to try and clean it up. I’ve tried all sorts of things including SUPERAntiSpyware Pro and Malwarebytes’ Anti Malware to clean it up, but after the full system scan they seem to come up as nothing wrong. I also cleaned up infected registry keys, well, I think I cleaned them all up, and I also deleted some processes from task manager. I tried SpyHunter, the eval version, and then I manually deleted the infected files, and I have a hijack this log if anyone wants it. Anyway, what’s next? What do I do? Is the best option just getting my media and work and getting a new computer? Thanks everyone
