windows vista problem?

i built a new computer. have a BFG GeForce 9800 Gt video card. have updated the drivers. but…. i still am getting the blue screen of death. its really driving me nuts. i have a registry cleaner and everything. updated drivers again. when i go to certain webpages. like the new verizon page www.droiddoes.com it goes right the the blue screen or starts over. im thinking my video card isnt getting enough power. its the BFG geforce 9800 gt. i plugged it into the motherboard. but cant find another slot for a power supply to go into it. i dont believe the card has a power supply meaning it only uses the motherboard to power it. any ideas?? thanks
roll back my card? what do u mean?

Hi,

I just built a PC with the following new components:

Intel C2D E8400 CPU
XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 CPU cooler
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R Motherboard
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB 7200 RPM SATA Hard drive
SAPPHIRE 100265HDMI Radeon HD 4830 512MB Video card
CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W Power supply
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1 Sound card

I used the following used components from my old rig:

2 x 512MB PQI DDR 266 PC2100 (I am waiting for new RAM: Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 PC2 6400)
Seagate Barracuda 160GB 7200RPM hard drive
DVD Drive
DVD Burner

I installed everything very carefully. PC booted normally, I did not make any changes in BIOS. After I finished doing a clean install of XP, the computer just keeps freezing after a minute or two while performing any regular task such as surfing the web, or accessing the C drive. It lets me install a driver or software once in a while and sometimes it will freeze during an installation. It just freezes everytime, it won’t just not freeze at least once. I was wondering if it is the old RAM memory 2 x 512MB that is not enough for this setup or too old? I even uninstalled the sound card, the DVD burner, and left only the 160GB hard drive but it keeps freezing. Any ideas? All I have hooked up now to the MB and CPU is the video card, DVD drive, 2 x 512MB, and 10GB hard drive.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Case is an Antec Lanboy if this helps…
Sorry I meant 160Gb hard drive not 10GB

I recently built a new computer from scratch with high end components and installed Windows Vista 64-bit.
I was having major issues with the system freezing permanently and randomly during use.
I would run windows memory diagnostic software and it did not find any hardware errors.

I had a 4 gig dual channel memory kit installed in the first 2 dimm slots on my motherboard.
I tried changing the memory to the last two dimm slots and the computer then seemed to work for a while but ultimately started freezing again.
Windows would also occasionally crash fatally to a blue error screen.

I then switched the memory to the 1st and 3rd dimm slots(both blue colored slots) and now Windows hasn’t froze or crashed in days.

Can anyone tell me why this last solution might have worked?
I have an Asus Maximus Extreme motherboard:

And 4g of OCZ Platinum Enhanced DDR3 memory

Thanks

The problem started yesterday. My computer was doing perfectly fine but then it crashed while running some program. so i had to perform a hard shutdown and restart the comp. the computer was still working fine after that one time but the program was buggy and kept crashing and i had to keep doing the hard shutdown. now times this whole scenario by 30 cause i shut it down nearly that many times from all the crashes. but now my comp wont even last 5 minutes before crashing and this is with the program not even running. i uninstalled it and same thing, i get a crash after 5 minutes. and booting up takes a long time in some parts and even still it doesnt always turn on correctly, it freezes in boot up aswell. even in bios it will freeze. so now im stuck. i tried to reinstall vista and it froze in the middle of reinstallation and then i ran the thing again and finished it up but its still crashing. so im guessing the motherboard got ruined because if it was power supply it would shut down after the crash wouldnt it? and its probably not software cause i completely reset the comp and reinstalled vista and i even tried switching wireless cards and mouse/keyboard. i also ran hp diagnostics tools and it says harddrive memory and cpu passed all the tests.
so pleeeaaase help meee. i cant use this thing without it freezing up every 5 minutes. i actually havnt even been able to get past the initial time setup pages and stuff when you reinstall vista. (using a dif. comp)
