my dad bought the WG311 v3 wireless adapter from netgear for his computer. after installing the software it disabled user switching and logon…only the administrator that installed the software could logon. it said I had to uninstall the software so I did and next time I tried to find a way to just install the device driver without the software…well I did and then windows wouldent boot…it said NTLDR missing so I booted from the XP disc to do a repair…I ran bootfix…it didnt work. then I ran mbrfix(master boot record) and that didnt work…I also copied ntldr and ntdetect to root from XP cd. now here I am with the harddrive in my computer on vista and Im looking at the drive with computer management\disc management and it shows the drive as a single partition with 76.33GB FAT file system (which is correct) but if you explore the drive or check its properties it says there is only 10MB total space with 3.4MB used the only files on the drive are ntldr and ntdetect
wyntry is absolutely right(I especially like your reply to dwight lol) but I ran out of text space for the original question(evil 1000 character limit)…anyway as for that downloadable hotfix I did find that and wanted to use it but I made the mistake of researching the problem after trying to fix it myself and thanks to that wrongly installed driver I cant boot to windows to install the fix. thing is…I was going to reinstall XP but as I mentioned b4 even tho it is an 80GB HD and disc manager sees that…explorer itself only sees it as 10MB and when I go to install XP thats all it sees as well. so it wants me to format the drive but thats not an option for me as there are important things on the disc…is there a way to access the data so I can copy it to my HD’s on my computer so I can reformat the drive safely and then reinstall XP? that looks like what Im gonna have to end up doing…I just dont know how to access the "vanished" data on the drive…

Hi, I’m helping a friend with his laptop. He had lots of weird stuff happening and his wife and kid both use the laptop as well. So we have a limited idea of how any problems occurred.
We want to do a reinstall of windows xp but I am concerned because there is a partition on the computer that he says wasn’t there originally. I don’t remember it and I cleaned it up for him last year.
How can I completely wipe the laptop and reinstall xp but eliminate the partition as well?

I have dell insipiron 1545 laptop wid windows vista home edition, its not starting, I have installed partion magic software for making my only c drive to partition then when i tried to partition its not partitioned so i tried to remove the software in the control panel and after that it suddenly says ur system has incurred a problem & now when i am starting it says windows error recovery wid 2 options – Launch startup repair(recommended) & start windows normally when i click start windows normally its not starting and when i click Launch startup repair(recommended) then its saying select o.s. to repair and no o.s. is showing in the system recovery options so i clicked load drivers where it says "insert the installation media for the device & click ok to select the drivers" when i click ok then all drivers folders is showing emtpty not matching the setup information, I dont knw how to fix this Could u help me how to start my os and get back my previous data or how to start it in safe mode. I want to make a clean installation on Windows XP using a Dell Dimension 3000. It came with an installation disc. I accepted the license agreement, and chose the option to create a clean installation. Now I am on the part where I could choose a certain partition to make a clean installation on.

-: Partition 1 (FAT) 47 MB (39 MB free)
C: Partition 2 (NTFS) 34507 MB (6494 MB free)
F: Partition 3 (FAT32) 3585 MB (708 MB free)

I chose drive C the last time and it did NOT make a clean installation. If I choose drive C, I am afraid it will not make a clean installation. What should I do, and what drive should I choose?
When I chose partition 2: C, all my previous files were still there, so it was NOT a clean installation.
If I delete partition 2: Drive C, it will not let me do so, because a part of the drive is needed to make an installation of Windows.
I want to use drive C for a clean installation, but how can I do it?

My windows partition on my macbook pro was playing up (unexpected restarts, blue screen of death then a restart, stuff like that) i tried using a file registry cleaner and it found problems with my registry every 5 minutes. This certainly wasnt due to a virus because i had antivirus software (AVG) and the only sites i went on were ones to get software such as skype and itunes. So i reinstalled windows, reinstalled all the games and all the software, just one day after the reinstall it gave me the blue screen of death again, any ideas? because im entirely out of them. 🙁

P.S. ive also tried to repair this disk both with the mac ‘Disk utility’ and after restarts windows starts a disk repair thing too, neither seem to have had any impact.
Thanks in advance any help is appreciated.
