For a CRT.
You should use compressed air for the internal components and 409 applied to a cotton cloth or towel followed by rubbing alcohol for the screen. Never spray anything other than compressed air "at" the unit. And whatever you do NEVER open the unit as the capacitors can hold a lethal charge for up to 30 days.
LCDs are a bit more complex . The outer housing can be cleaned with a very lightly moistened cotton paper towel (again 409) but the screen on these are a bit trickier.
Usually your safest bet is to use denatured alcohol and a cotton cloth with as little pressure as possible . You want to first clean the surface with compressed air and then get any additional smudges with the solvent /cloth. IT is important to clean until the solvent has evaporated completely however or you run a risk of allowing it to discolor the plastic. (most commercial electronics dusting formulas are repackaged fancified denatured alcohol)
Never use any harsh chemicals to clean a plastic coated screen such as but not limited to: Windex, acetone, ammonia, ammonium sulphide, glycerin based soaps or solvents.
These will almost certainly damage the non reflective coating and discolor if not flat out melt portions of the screen.
I would use a dust rag.
there is a dusting spray for electrial appliances such as computers and t.v.s etc. its made by pledge. they also have the wipes for dusting.
I would use compressed air, it works better and is safer
I use a monitor wipe for computers.
You can buy monitor wipes at most office or computer stores. they work very well. dust spray or vacuum would also work.
