Sounds like a great idea. There should be plenty of prompts to enter things like the time zone the product key. There might not be one if this is a restore cd for a factory computer.
go into your bios and make sure in the settings that it is set to boot to cd rom drive first and hdd last. then restart your computer and it should boot to the windows cd. some of the older windows xp discs may require a floppy boot disc? hopefully yours does not. good luck :0)
