It’s just not one thing, its a multitude of software an hardware as well as tools. While one formatting program may work for one drive it wont work with another drive aka Western Digital an Maxtor. Aside from what kind of "repair" that you want to preform. Just a software tech or hardware…. ect….
Start off small.
Use free ware, there are a lot of free ware out there that get the job done fine.
Once you are making money, then start to buy some proffessional stuff. NOT before, as it might not take off.
Use stuff like Ophcrack, and other linux based live CDs.
It’s probably best to use protable apps as well, so they don’t have to install and won’t leave "marks" on the users computer.
They are my suggestions.
I would suggest you have a boot disk, and a USB memory stick with:
1.) 1-2 good anti-spyware softwares.
2.) Programs to fix and clean up registries like CCleaner.
3.) Service packs for Windows.
4.) Drivers.
5.) Process Explorer from Microsoft (Optional, but can help determine if something is spyware easier).
And yes, you are able to purchase a copy of Windows like that, but if you do, keep in mind that typically these have a set amount of licenses on them. When working with a home user, ask if they have the CDs that came with their computer in case you need to reformat.
Good luck!
