   Well if new browser windows keep popping up, even if you don’t have any windows open, you probably have some some sort of adware or rogue antivirus/spyware. Your dad is completely wrong about free antivirus software, especially since some of the free ones are almost as good, if not better, than some of the paid ones.
   In that case, try SUPERAntiSpyware or Malwarebytes (or both, since they work together great.) Both of them are free and give you great protection.

   If it’s just annoying popups, try a good popup blocker like AdBlock Plus (an addon for FireFox.)

   sounds like you have a trojan. My space is famous for that, better get rid of it and also get some virus protection /

   in safe mode F8 run malwarebytes anti-malware and SUPERAntispyware,and what they find you
   delete it manually. then run ccleaner to clean your pc, and mvregclean, to clean registry.
   what mvregclean find you remove because the key is there but not the file ,folder or program.
   even you reformat and it finds anything remove dont be afraid.
   dont forget when you install this software to update them, and do an update every day
   then restore untill before you get infected.
